    Default 2016-17 finally over

April 30th was the last day of the season for me. Last week got a request for next season from a place I haven't plowed in almost 10 years. They said the guy they had is quitting so they are giving me first chance at it.

    Did this season ever start?

What a depressing winter........especially after the amount of money I spent on actual plow equipment that got used very little.

Salting was good, but actual plowing sucked.

We did a sidewalk run yesterday morning. I don't ever remember dropping a plow in May before.

I too bought some new equipment last fall. We had two good storms the rest of the "storms" were mostly salt events. My wife calls my equipment purchases insurance so that it doesn't snow :)

80% of our work includes plowing, salting and loader work so I can't complain on the lighter winter. December was a busy month though, our biggest salt usage month of all time. I was actually quite concerned that if the winter kept up like that we'd be loosing money. I like avg winters, it keeps everyone happy.

I would like to have a winter.
It seems to be like 3 years of a warm winter.
And 1 year a hard cold winter with little snow.
And 1 year of lots of snow and wind.
    I blame the windmills.

I miss having a good stretch of cold weather. The last 2 have been up and down, no base that sticks aroond.

Not to mention with it being so warm, it made it overly cloudy. Kind of made me angry like a union monkey.

Closest that I know of are in Ludington.

Haven't been up there in awhile, went a month ago and they ruined the landscape. Those things are butt ugly.

Im all all for average or even light winters like the past one. We never got the nasty storm followed by 24hrs of heavy lake effect. Those events really take the ambition out of plowing with so many issues popping up all at once. Stress like that starts to change my mind on why I am in the business.
